Proposal
For the final project I first researched nature, fashion, architecture and abstract for the photographic genres task and I have chosen to do nature as my theme.
My reasons for choosing nature as a theme for the final major project, are because it is one of the most interesting and enjoyable types of photography in my opinion. Although I know it can be quite difficult to take pictures of animals because you cannot ask them to pose and they move around a lot. And to capture natural landscapes at their best you need to be patient waiting for the right lighting.
One of the photographers I find inspirational is Alex Saberi; a British nature and landscape photographer. I really like the way he captures wildlife in the light of the early morning, often surrounded by mist, his images are very atmospheric.
From my research into the four genres, I have highlighted a variety of areas within nature I could explore; these include macro photography, still life and landscapes. Each of these different types of photography in nature can be experimented in, colour or black and white whether it’s film or digital. Some of the ideas I have with the macro photography include; focusing on plants, flowers, grass etc. as an up close view. The landscapes could be in black and white or colour depending on which I think suits the best. I have come up with an idea for a still life shoot in the studio that could be pictures of flowers, leaves and other natural things from the outside portrayed in a still life format.
I am planning to do some of the photos when I go on the residential trip to Hawes in the Yorkshire dales. I also intend to shoot some pictures that are captured closer to where I live; flowerbeds in Bradford City centre, scenes in Knowles Park and even some pictures of my cats at home. I will be booking a photo studio session at college where I intend to photograph some still life in a more controlled situation.
I am hoping to capture the beauty of nature in my photographs where some will be on location and others will be indoors where the photos can be more controlled and planned more easily.
