Jaap Buitendijk

Jaap Buitendijk is a movie still photographer who has shot many images and posters for films such as 12 Years a Slave, Rush, Harry Potter, World War Z and Gladiator. He grew up in Holland but is currently living in Windsor and Edinburgh with his wife and daughter. He travelled extensively as a teenager and moved to Britain in 1990. It was during his travels that he first picked up a camera and started to grow his passion for photography. He went to go on and study documentary photography at Newport School of Art and here he explored the apparent contradiction of using documentary skills to record an artificial reality of films. He achieved a first class honours degree and the Fuji Professional Award for Film Stills, in 1996.

Since then, Jaap has been a professional stills photographer, with a reputation of thinking outside the box. His work on the sets of major productions really shows versatility and commitment to the still photography of cinema and the fascinating opportunity to capture the mechanics of film making itself.

Away from film sets, Jaap is an avid restorer of classic cars and a founding producer of NoAgendoadaShow.com, an open source internet radio project.

Alex Bailey

Alex Bailey got his first break in movie stills 20 years ago when, just after he had turned freelance, and thanks to a friend's recommendation, he landed a job as an assistant photographer on the blockbusting Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

His interest in photography was sparked at 12 when he joined his school's photography club and experienced 'the magic of seeing an image appear on a blank piece of paper in a developing tray'. In his early 20s, he landed a job as a press photographer with the South London Guardian Group for three years, followed by a demanding three-year stint as a technical/scientific photographer at GEC. Then came Robin Hood, and a whole new world of possibilities opened up.

Alex now has over 60 titles under his belt, including Atonement, The Madness of King George, Bridget Jones' Diary, Pride and Prejudice, The History Boys, Sherlock Holmes and, most recently, Hugo, Snow White and the Huntsman, The Iron Lady and the forthcoming Colin Firth/Cameron Diaz remake of icon 60s flick, Gambit – and throughout it all, he's been a stalwart Nikon user.
